CONSULTING SERVICES

I have been working as a freelance consultant with the NHS, Local Authorities and the Charitable Sector for more than ten years.
Before this, I worked as a manager in the NHS and at the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence. I have a long career listening to the people most affected by service changes or improvement work, including those who too often aren’t listened to in time. My background allows me to pick up on sensitive areas, things that are not being said, and the small nuances that can be missed out if people over rely on internal managers or on computerised approaches.

With an MA in Psychology, and MSc in Healthcare Management and Leadership and a PGC in Health Economics, I bring considerable experience in reviewing evidence, including evidence quality; my experience lets me spot where computer hallucinations might have slipped into published sources or where research biases might have crept in.

I am proud of my work with the NHS (supporting Training Hubs to introduce new roles and guide more people into apprenticeships or training routes, where some of my work was picked up nationally, looking at how to get a wider impact from free training and supporting teams through the Covid-19 pandemic), Local Authorities (working on Right to Risk approaches, support for Displaced Workers to find new roles and supporting health and housing projects) and with Community Interest Companies and small charities (working on evaluating support to teach parents about the executive function and memory processes underlying Autism, working with housing associations on their service evaluations and working as a Trustee with Headway East Lothian).

Frequently asked questions

I can’t answer that until I know what you are hoping to do. My projects have varied from £800 for a very quick, pragmatic review of evidence through to £5000 for a full evaluation with multiple interviews, surveys, evidence reviews and rounds of reports. We can discuss what you are looking for by email or online meeting, and work out prices from there.

If you have a budget in mind, it helps if you can share that with me; I’m always happy to discuss requirements and trim the work to suit what’s realistic.

Yes, if your existing person is happy for me to do so. I have frequently taken a collaborative approach, and it can work really well to have more than one area of expertise and way of thinking on a project.

I primarily work remotely.

I am open to face to face working in Edinburgh and East Lothian, between 10am and 2pm, and can come to face to face meetings in Glasgow, Mid and West Lothian, the Borders and Stirling between 11am and 1pm, with reasonable travel expenses payable.

Chalmers Page Consultancy primarily works with the NHS, Local Authorities, Community Interest Companies and Charities, predominantly around health, wellbeing, care and similar areas. I am open to working with organisations outside those remits, as long as I think my skills will suit your work.
